The Admission process

Step 1: Registration

Registration can be done online or Offline. To complete the registration process, a set of documents need to be submitted either through courier or in person. It is mandatory for all documents to be submitted in full for an application to be considered.
• Previous school reports (last three years where applicable)
• Photocopy of the child's passport and visa (latter where applicable)
• Photocopy of the parents' passport
• Passport sized photograph of the child (in colour)
• Passport sized photograph of parents' (in colour)
• Registration fee: Non refundable amount of Rs.100/- by credit/ debit card online.

Step 2: Written assessment

Once we have seats to offer, all applicants (except for Nursery and Reception) will be required to undergo a level appropriate admissions assessment. This helps us learn about each applicant’s capabilities and identify any special needs. Admission assessments in English and Mathematics are necessary for all students entering Years 1 to 9. Years 10 to 13 are also assessed in Science(s) in addition to English and Mathematics.
All assessments may take place either in The British School in Delhi, or in the student's current school, with the approval and supervision of an invigilator. We will require the name, phone number and e-mail contact details of the teacher with whom we will liaise regarding assessment to be supervised in other schools.

Step 3: Face to face interview

Applicants who clear the written assessments will be invited for a face to face interview. The interview would be conducted by an Admissions panel comprising of a representative of the Principal of the Primary/Secondary School plus a teacher/Key Stage Coordinator or the Curriculum Area Leader, and will include the prospective student and at least one parent of the student concerned.

It is recognised that in the case of applicants applying from overseas, it will normally not be possible to schedule a meeting until the physical arrival of the families in Delhi. Sometimes, a video-conference/Skype call may be arranged. In situations where none of this is a possibility, the Admissions panel may grant a conditional admission based on the applicant’s written assessment (if applicable) and previous school records. Such conditional approval will be subject to confirmation following the interview, which should be scheduled as soon as reasonably possible.
Additionally, applicants to the IB Diploma programme (Year 12 and Year 13) please note:
- An applicant’s choice of her/his IB Diploma subjects will be determined by the above process, and, in the case of certain
higher level subjects,
minimum grades are required.
- An assessment is usually necessary for transfer students. It is important to provide us with most recent school reports to
determine if an admissions assessment is necessary.
- Reference checks and previous school records will be scrutinised prior to admitting students transferring from previous
schools.

Step 4: Offer of admission

The result of the written assessments, face to face interviews and records from the previous school (where applicable) of the applicant, will be considered before an offer of admission is made by The British School. This encompasses behavioural and attitudinal matters as well as the academic record.
- For every successful admission, a home-school agreement will be signed to signify acceptance of the behavioural and
attitudinal standards expected at the school
